I am 18 and wear a 40D and I have back problems. Am I too young for a breast reduction?

Q:

I had a child 2 years ago and breast fed but it did not help. I've always had large breasts but now they sag and are an odd shape with large areolas... I would like to be a large C-cup but am concerned if I am too young...

A:

May I presume you are concerned about breast size and sagging of your breasts that has occurred following pregnancy. These are normal events that are associated with post gestational involution of the breast. Or, this is what can occur the the breast with pregnancy, breast feeding and weight gain/ loss.

The two components of the appealing breast are the size of the breast in relation to the patients body size and the position of the nipple on the breast. We refer to nipples in a low position as breast ptosis or sagging. Large breasts with nipples pointing down to the ground are less appealing than, breast where the nipples are more erect. Breast augmentation enhances the pre-existing or pre-operative breast. A breast lift often reshapes the patients breasts and repositions the patients nipple in a more youthful position. Sometimes both procedures are required especially, in women with multiple pregnancies. If you are done having children consider a consult with a ASAPS Member regarding your issues & concerns. No, you are not too young for this type of surgery. Best,
